Crying at Everything aka the Silly Cry
Have you been crying at odd things recently? Don't worry. A lot of us are.
Hello!
Before we begin—Back in Hawai’i = new dog content.
It all started when I found myself crying, inexplicably, over a video of a bear who picked up and repositioned a highway cone for us humans while we are away in quarantine. The caption read, “We are in good hands. Paws.” I then found myself crying over an Ariana Grande song. An upbeat one. And while some people are filling up their self-isolation time making arts and crafts and having a “Coronaissance” as NPR reports, others are baking sourdough bread and puzzling according to ABC, and beloved John Kransinski aka Jim Halpert from The Office fame started a Youtube channel dedicated to sharing only good news, rightly called Some Good News, I’ve found that others (not just me) have been crying a lot. Especially over strange things that would not normally warrant a cry.
I reached out to a few friends about how I’ve been an extreme cry risk recently, crying over things in this world that may merit a good cry and others that don't. And I relayed how, well, stupid I felt for crying over such silly things. And thats when a lot of them told me that they, too, were having silly cries.
So, I asked them about theirs and I got back some responses:
Some people disclosed that they haven’t been crying over silly things, or even crying at all:
So then, being the super journalist that I am, I took this question to the streets (and by streets I mean social media because we cannot and SHOULD NOT go to the real streets right now).
I got some other replies:
It was nice not to feel so alone in my silly goose cries. I found solace in the fact that other people have also had some weird cries recently. Weird times lead to weird cries.
And then my friend messaged me this:
And welp, I just about cried all over again. At least we all—if not most—are.
I’ll leave you with another picture. My sister carrying my dog who injured his paw, but who is still saving the world one ruff at a time (my dog, not my sister).
And as always,
Thanks for reading.
This is really nice, Sophia. Something about seeing the screenshots from chats.
